BRANDON CARRSIDE YOUTH AND COMMUNITY PROJECT

-

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THIS YEAR’S WISH MONEY?

The young people like to plan community activities such as fun days and parties for families in the community. The members organise the events, raise funds to provide them and volunteer at the events.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR GROUP.

We have been in existence since 1964 and developed from what once was a boy’s club to a thriving youth and community project. We have around 125 members, six volunteers, five youth workers and eight committee members. We give fun, informal information and advice to young people as well as providing activities and opportunities.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE AT YOUR GROUP?

There are a whole host of events that take place including educational, intergenerational and heritage projects.

WHO IS THE LONGEST SERVING MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP?

We have a group of young people at one of our projects who all started together when they were 11 two of which have their eighteenth birthdays in a few weeks time.

TELL US ABOUT THE BIGGEST OR BEST ACTIVITY OR EVENT YOUR GROUP HAS ORGANISED.

We held four summer fun days this summer. It involved a lot of hard work to organise them! We had character appearances, inflatables, archery, police dogs and more - all for free.

WHAT IS YOUR GROUP’S PROUDEST MOMENT TO DATE?

The intergenerational work we provide is the proudest part of what we do, especially seeing the young and old people working together.

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE JOIN YOUR GROUP?

We have loads of fun while we learn and try new things. Everyone is friendly and encouraging. You get to meet new people, gain awards and we have been described by our young people as one big family who are always there for each other.

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD TO BE FROM THE NORTH-EAST USING FIVE WORDS?

Heritage, friendly people and coastline.
