APPLE’S FREE CODING SESSIONS

APPLE has announced it’s offering hundreds of free learn-to-code sessions at its retail stores all across Europe as part of the EU Code week, which runs until October 22.

You can sign up to one of the coding lessons as part of the Today at Apple in-store learning programme.

The lessons are aimed at helping anyone interested in getting into coding get a start with Apple’s own coding language Swift – which is used to build iOS apps.

And the free lessons are not just for Code Week, but run all year round.

“We believe coding is the language of the future that everyone should have the chance to learn,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve built a range of innovative and free tools to make sure coding is fun and accessible to everyone. We know the incredible impact technology can have on lives and the opportunities it can bring to communities.”

The initiative is part of Apple’s comprehensive programme to help people get into coding – as well as the in-store sessions, there’s a full curriculum of coding lessons available for free.

And there’s the Swift Playground iPad app, which is also free, and uses a unique interactive learning system and a carefully constructed course to help even those who have never coded before get a head start.

Apple says 1.36 million jobs in Europe are attributable to Apple’s iOS app economy. Apple has paid out nearly $18 billion to developers across Europe since the App Store launched. Local coding sessions can be found at events.codeweek.eu and apple.com/uk/today
