30 years of making such a difference

TODAY WE TALK TO BABY EQUIPMENT LOAN SERVICE & TOY LIBRARY

-

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THIS YEAR’S WISH MONEY?

We run a weekly toddler group and have designated toys for this session. We would like to increase the variety of toys available including craft and sensory toys. TELL US ABOUT YOUR GROUP.

BELS & TL is a charity responding to local needs since 1985. The project provides essential items of baby safety equipment to families on low incomes or benefits living in North Tyneside. Since 2003 we have developed a toy library containing toys, play and sporting equipment. The project reached more than 700 people last year and is overseen by eight management committee members. We have two volunteers that assist in the day to day running. WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE AT YOUR GROUP?

We have a toy library and also run a toddler group and stay and play sessions. Being able to deliver a service to disadvantaged families and enabling the children to play in a safe environment is an important factor of our work. WHO IS THE LONGEST SERVING MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP?

Carol Dennison has been involved since 1985. TELL US ABOUT THE BIGGEST OR BEST ACTIVITY OR EVENT YOUR GROUP HAS ORGANISED.

We celebrated our 30th anniversary two years ago and had a guest appearance by Pudsey Bear.

We also held a raffle and tombola which raised more than £900. What is your group’s proudest moment to date? Our proudest moment is the longevity of the project.

Also having continued support from the various trusts and charities that fund us. WHY SHOULD SOMEONE JOIN YOUR GROUP?

People should become members because of the high cost and sometimes inferior quality of baby equipment and toys. WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD TO BE FROM THE NORTH-EAST USING FIVE WORDS?

The best place to be!
