Dua Lipa’s electricity is blowing minds

O2 ACADEMY NEWCASTLE WAS HOTTER THAN HELL AND SO WAS DUA LIPA, FINDS SIMON DUKE

-

REWIND two years ago and, no disrespect to her, but the name Dua Lipa would have meant little to most people. But that’s all changed.

And the reason why? The 22-year-old singer’s knack for penning a killer hook and her almost effortless ability to bring them to life both in the studio and on stage.

Opening her set in front of a packed Newcastle audience with Hotter Than Hell, the song that saw her star soar to new levels, Dua was on fire from start to finish, bringing a real fierce presence to her performance.

It wasn’t just the sheer amount of people in the capacity venue that kept the temperature high as the current queen of British electro pop delivered a show that was over all too quickly.

Singles like the extremely sassy Blow Your Mind, No Lie and Scared To Be Lonely landed with perfection while album tracks like Last Dance, Genesis and Homesick, which kicked off the well received encore, packed an extra punch live.

As well cutting a striking figure on stage, Dua Lipa’s mightily impressive voice cast a spell over her captive crowd.

With just one album under her belt, her set was always going to be rather brief but rounding things off in style with epic mid-tempo anthem Be The One and recent chart topper No Rules, she absolutely left everyone wanting more, with the latter threatening to raise the roof off the Academy as the atmosphere reached fever pitch.

Roll on album number two!
