Huge crowd is expected for visit of Tigers

-

NEWCASTLE Falcons are on course for their biggest home crowd in more than nine years when Leicester Tigers visit Kingston Park Stadium a week on Sunday (October 29).

More than 7,500 tickets have already been sold for the Aviva Premiership clash, with seats for the 3pm kick-off almost sold out at the 10,200-capacity venue.

Supporters are urged to book in advance to avoid missing out on a game which looks set to see the biggest home crowd since May 2008.

That month saw the Falcons playing Wasps in front of a full house, the fixture having been rescheduled from earlier in the season when high winds forced the postponement of the original date.

That game came only a week after the Falcons had beaten Leicester 28-25 in front of a crowd of 9,184, this year’s fixture against the same opposition generating huge local interest on the back of the team’s flying start to the season.

Newcastle have not lost at Kingston Park Stadium in any competition for more than seven months.

Their two Aviva Premiership outings on their home pitch this season have brought bonus point victories over Worcester Warriors and London Irish.

Managing director Mick Hogan said: “It’s fantastic to see the region’s sporting public getting behind the club in such numbers, and the demand for tickets on October 29 is way ahead of previous matches, which had already been showing an upward trend on last season.

“We’d hate for anyone to miss out on what promises to be a fantastic Aviva Premiership encounter between two great clubs.

“The advice is to get in early if you want to secure your place, especially in the seated areas which are very close to being sold out.

“The excitement generated by the team’s outstanding start to the season is extremely pleasing given the amount of hard work which has gone in across the entire club.

“And we’re confident those in attendance which enjoy the match-day experience in what promises to be a great sporting occasion.”
