Heed beaten as chances go begging

GATESHEAD HC’s senior men’s side lost 3-1 to Neston at Kingsmeado­w in a game of missed chances.

Neston capitalise­d on good luck as the ball went loose at the top of the circle to an unmarked forward, who slotted the ball under the advancing Gateshead goalkeeper.

Neston continued to press forward and increased their lead when they hit a solid strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

The second half was a more tight affair, both sides looking for scoring opportunit­ies but neither side capitalisi­ng on penalty corners.

Neston increased their lead with an element of luck as the ball was deflected past the advancing goalkeeper.

Gateshead continued to press the Neston defence and pulled a goal back.

They continued to press and created a number of scoring opportunit­ies and will be disappoint­ed they did not earn a share of the points. ■■GATESHEAD Thirds hosted Tynemouth in an even game which eventually ended 3-3.

The home side pressed the Tynemouth defence and great work from Read and Camcell allowed Chapman to pounce on a loose ball and give the Tynesiders the lead.

However, they only held the lead for a minute as Tynemouth levelled.

The second period was much the same, both sides looking for scoring opportunit­ies.

Gateshead, however, broke the deadlock after Read and Chapman linked up to find Camcell in the circle and he drove down the goalline and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Tynemouth pushed for the equaliser but found Gateshead goalkeeper Nelson in good form.

However, they levelled from a penalty corner and after an excellent save from Nelson the ball rolled kindly to Tynemouth forward, who slotted the ball home from close range. ■■GATESHEAD Over-50s beat visitors Durham City 6-0 in the England Masters Cup.
