Inspirational integration
TODAY WE TALK TO CEDARS ACADEMY
What will you do with this year’s Wish money?
In the main, any money gained from the Wish fund would be used by us to support sport, physical activity and outdoor adventurous activities.
Our aim is to encourage self-awareness, physical and emotional confidence by enabling young people to participate, co-operate and integrate in sport, physical activities, outdoor and adventurous activities and other leisure activities. Tell us about your group.
Our parent support group, Cedars Charitable Trust, is a group of committed people who want to increase the opportunities for children and young people with learning difficulties and/or a disability who live, are educated, or work in the Gateshead area and to also their families. We have been an active charity since 1969. Our membership comprises around 140 young people who access our various activities. What kind of activities take place at your group? An extensive range of sports, outdoor adventures, social clubs and so much more. Who is the longest-serving member of your group? Martin Flowers has been involved for 22 years. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.
We are involved in developing a TV channel for those with special educational needs and disabled young adults.
The project is designed to address social and digital inclusion issues. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?
The development of learning routes that have led to employment opportunities in the world of sport and physical activity.
A number of ex-members are now gainfully employed in coaching and teaching as a direct result of the skills and qualifications developed due to involvement in our activities. Why should someone join your group?
To receive appropriate support and access to opportunities that enable anyone, of any ability, to develop skills and qualities to help them to actively engage, participate fully and to contribute in adult life. What makes you proud to be from the North East using no more than five words? Our inspiring people.
