Tavern in last four - but just

Holders edge past a battling Westfields

THERE were mixed fortunes for the league’s two sides in the NFA Sunday Cup.

Holders Amble Tavern won a bruising encounter at home against Newcastle Westfields 5-4.

They went through to the semi-final with goals from Rob Baker (2), Jake Baker, Dan Thompson and Liam Brooks.

Ashington RAOB, however, went out 2-1 at Blakelaw Social despite a Kyle Downey strike.

In round two of the George Davison Cup, Whitehouse lost 2-0 to Ashington Town Central after extra time.

Goals for the Central came from Michael Todd and Scott Neal.

Bedlington Sunday crashed 7-2 at at home against the High Street.

Tommy Wilkinson and Glen Reardon notched for Sunday, Chris Laidlaw (3), Anthony Goldie (2), Duane Dunn and Adam Emmerson for the victors.

Block and Tackle reached round three of the Alan Davison Cup thanks to a 1-0 success against Bebside Inn Calum Johnson on target.

In the Premier Division, Blyth Town enjoyed an 11-0 romp against Cramlingto­n Green.

Leading the way were Rob Ridley (5) and Daniel Carr (4), Kevin Long and James Sinton completing the tally.

East Chevington prevailed 3-0 at home against Bedlington Social Club United.

On target for the Chevington side were Luke Baston (2) and Daniel Palmer.

Earsdon Red Lion roared to a 4-2 verdict at Marden Residents - after Marden had gone 2-0 up.

Kevin Watler and Chris Ridgeway notched for the Residents, James Keelen (2), Michael Butcher and Matty Miley for the Lion.

Ashington Station Lounge beat Ellington Plough 5-0 courtesy of Damien Stevens (2), Lee Messenger (2) and Jonny McGurk.

A rampant Newsham Victory thumped Guidepost Shakespear­e Tavern 18-0.

David Lillico netted seven times and Curtis Miller five times, Craig Frazer and Chris Yellowley with two each and Shaun Robinson with one.
