Top comeback books United clash against Shildon in Vase

MARSKE United produced a stunning comeback to progress to the Second Round of the FA Vase with a 3-2 win at AFC Darwen.

The Northern League side were 2-1 down with 15 minutes left, only for James Fairley to hit a quick-fire brace to set up a tie against Shildon in the next round.

Adam Rundle scored twice as Dunston UTS progressed to the Second Round of the Durham Challenge Cup with a 3-1 win at Jarrow FC.

Mark Fitzpatric­k got the other goal for Chris Swailes side, with Jordan Mellish scoring for the hosts.

Stockton Town were given a real test by Division Two side Darlington RA, with the tie eventually being settled with a penalty shoot-out.

A Matty Garbutt brace and an early Jamie Owens goal gave Stockton a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Goals from James Wilson and Sam England got the visitors back into the game and Dominic Joynes completed a remarkable comeback with five minutes left.

However, it was the Division One side that progressed with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win.

Willington and Billingham Synthonia shared six goals in normal-time as their tie also went to a penalty shoot-out.

It was Synners that progressed with a 3-2 win on spot-kicks.

The tie between Hartlepool United Reserves and Hebburn Town went to penalties as well after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park.

Youngster Jack Cooper scored the decisive penalty for Pools as they won 6-5 in the shoot-out.

Benji Kimpioka hit a second-half hat-trick as Sunderland U23s made light work of Wearside League Hartlepool FC with a 5-0 win at Eppleton.

And Sunderland West End came out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Birtley Town.

Nathan Burrell and Lee Smith were on the scoresheet as West End secured a 4-3 win against the Northern Alliance club.
