TWO people have been arrested after a mum-ofthree died in a hit-and-run.

The 63-year-old woman, who has been named as Susan Fuller, was involved in a collision with an grey Audi A3 yesterday morning.

Paramedics tried in vain to save her, but her injuries were so severe she passed away on the roadside.

Police say the driver left the scene, on Coldstream Gardens in Howdon, Wallsend.

A 24-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman have now been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Hudson is tonight leading the investigation into the collision and has appealed for witnesses to get in touch.

She said: “Susan’s family are tonight having to come to terms with her death and specialist officers will continue to support them as they come to terms with what has happened.

“A full investigation has been launched into the collision this morning and we want anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.

“Extra officers are in the area this evening to reassure the public and speak to anyone who has any concerns. If you did not see what happened, but believe you have information that could help police, then please get in touch as it may be vital to our investigation.”

Brian Pickard, 56, who has known Susan for more than 25 years, said: “I knew her very, very well. She was my best friend. She was a lovely lady without a doubt. She was absolutely fantastic. She was just one of the best.”

Brian said Susan had been a full-time mum, who doted on her three sons. And the 56-year-old said his pal always had a smile on her face.

“Me and my wife were her best friends,” he continued. “She was always full of daft carry on. She was an absolutely brilliant woman. You could ask anyone and they’d say the same.

“If you met her, you would say you wish she could come out with you. She had a brilliant personality.”

Brian said Susan lived for her three sons, and had three cats and loved gardening.

“She still looked after those sons even though they were grown up,” he continued. “They never left the house without saying they love her. She always used to say: ‘When I go I don’t know how my lads will cope.’”

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about those involved, should call police on 101 quoting log 278 27/10/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
