Weekend to remember is our goal
TODAY WE TALK TO MEDOMSLEY GIRLS’ BRIGADE
What will you do with this year’s Wish money?
We intend to spend any funds received from this year’s Wish fund to help reduce the cost of our annual residential weekend away. This would providing them with opportunities to create new friendships and develop their social skills within a more informal, relaxed environment. It would also help build their confidence. These weekends are enjoyed by all! Tell us about your group.
Our group ranges from girls aged from four up to adults. A typical session involves working towards awards through participating in games, crafts, singing, cooking, helping others in the community and working together. Our group have recently just celebrated its 50 year anniversary. We currently have 50 girls as well as seven team members and volunteers, along with myself. What kind of activities take place at your group?
Our group work towards gaining badges throughout the year by playing games, doing various crafts, singing, cooking, helping others in the community and working together. Who is the longest serving member of your group?
Joyce Ridley and Jill Jackson have both been officers in our group for 30 years plus. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.
One of our best fundraisers is what we call Girls’ Brigade Week where the girls do jobs for their families, friends and people in the community for a small donation. The girls enjoy this and it helps to promote our group. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?
The most recent proudest moment for our group was 50 girls receiving their awards and certificates in July in front of their parents for the work they had completed during the past year. It also included entertaining their parents with a glimpse of what they had done over the past year, including a very funny puppet show. Why should someone join your group?
Anyone who joins our group will find new friendships, a sense of belonging, will learn social skills, gain a sense of community and will enjoy being in a safe environment. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?
Hard-working, friendly and loyal community.
