Every day we make a difference

TODAY WE TALK TO GREAT NORTH AIR AMBULANCE

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

This year we would like to put the funds raised from the Wish campaign to purchase a mannequin that can be used to train the crews to put central lines in.

As a lot of our patients are critical it can be difficult to get intravenous access to give blood and drugs.

Central lines are an answer to this problem, but they are more complex than simple IV access so we need a specialist device to train with. Tell us about your group.

We operate 365 days a year, across the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria areas.

We are always looking for volunteers to help us at events. What kind of activities take place at your group? GNAAS are here to help everyone in the region. We are primarily activated for life threatening incidents or potentially life threatening incidents.

The latter category can include injuries that may in isolation seem relatively insignificant, for example a broken leg.

However, sometimes these injuries are sustained in a location inaccessible by road, maybe in adverse weather conditions, therefore exposing the patient to additional factors that can escalate their condition. Who is the longest serving member of your group?

Grahame Pickering is the man who had the idea and is responsible for the North East having its own air ambulance service. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

GNAAS organises a yearly ball to raise funds and awareness in the North East. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

Every incident attended by GNAAS is a proud moment, but when you hear about how GNAAS have helped the patient, their families and friends and work colleagues and made a difference to their lives, it is truly humbling. Why should someone join your group?

If you want to volunteer we offer support and training to enable you to provide support to us. Being part of a team who help save lives is a good feeling, What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

Dedicated, kind, driven, community, helpful.
