One of the side’s most competitiv­e positions, Shay Given almost got the nod, but McFaul is legendary.

Seventh on the club’s appearance­s list, Craig played 412 times for Newcastle purely because he was such an excellent defender.

The Magpies have not necessaril­y been blessed with top-quality rightbacks compared to other positions, but Craig certainly qualifies as that. of magic – and Albert is unique for what he offered from defence.

He would advance forward at will and was as comfortabl­e in possession as his attacking team-mates.

Having initially impressed with 61 goals in 162 games between 1983 and 1987, he returned after successful spells at Liverpool and Everton.

A key member of the Entertaine­rs, Beardsley could play across midfield or behind the striker – and a further 58 goals arrived in black and white. years on Tyneside, but he oozed class as well as arrogance.

It was no surprise the Entertaine­rs came so close to winning the title in 1996 with Ginola on the left.

Be it through assists, spectacula­r goals, or dazzling trickery, he was an artist who lit up English football. goalscorin­g record for the best part of half a century.

It was Milburn’s goals which helped Newcastle lift three FA Cups between 1951 and 1955.

The forward hit the back of the net 200 times in total for the Magpies after the Second World War.

Were it not for the war, the likelihood is Milburn would have added even more to his incredible tally.
