ROYAL BRITISH LEGION FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANC­E 2017

Tonight, BBC1, 9pm THE Royal Albert Hall in London hosts the annual Festival of Remembranc­e.

Huw Edwards narrates the event as the likes of Emeli Sande, Tom Odell, Alfie Boe and Lesley Garrett take to the stage alongside the Queen’s Colour Squadron and the Royal Marines Band. They will be paying tribute to the men and women who have died in combat since the First World War.

ELTON JOHN: THE NATION’S FAVOURITE SONG

Tomorrow, ITV, 9pm FOR a fan of the piano man, choosing your favourite song from his back catalogue is like being asked to pick your favourite child. Where does one even begin with such a task?

Whatever the answer, ITV has attempted to make us do just that, and now it’s revealing the results of a nationwide poll to unearth the 20 most popular of Elton’s tunes. But what will make it to the top of the list?

Candle in the Wind is perhaps his most famous work, but there are plenty more to go at, including his first hit, Your Song, Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock... The list could go on.

CHILDREN IN NEED ROCKS THE 80S

Monday, BBC1, 8.30pm THE first Children in Need telethon was broadcast in 1980 – and now the charity is going back to that decade with a star-studded concert at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

Fearne Cotton and Sara Cox introduce performanc­es by acts including A-ha, Bananarama, Boy George, Erasure, Europe, Jason Donovan, Mica Paris, Nick Heyward and OMD.

And for the younger viewers, there’s X Factor winner Louisa Johnson, who will be getting into the Eighties spirit even though she wasn’t born until 1998.

JO BRAND’S CATS & KITTENS

Tuesday, Channel 5, 8pm THERE are 8.5million cats in Britain, with one in five UK households owning a pet moggy. Late last year, Jo Brand presented documentar­y Kitten Rescuers (a spin-off from The Dog Rescuers). And now the feline fanatic returns with a sixparter following the vets, RSPCA inspectors and volunteers who work tirelessly to save the nation’s

felines from harm.

She begins on the frontline tonight, reporting for surgery duties at one of the UK’s busiest animal hospitals and rolling up her sleeves to help save the life of a young kitten Saba who has fallen from a balcony.

THE SECRET LIFE OF THE ZOO

Wednesday, Channel 4, 8pm BLACK rhino Kitani is due to give birth at Chester Zoo and help swell the ranks of this endangered species, but, having lost three previous calves, it is a worrying time and the keepers are concerned.

The zoo also has four rare new arrivals called tenrecs, mysterious mammals from Madagascar and, with so little known about them, the keepers try everything

LOVE, LIES AND RECORDS

Thursday, BBC1, 9pm BIRTHS, deaths and marriages – it’s all in a day’s work for registrars. So, no wonder Kay Mellor thought a register office would make the perfect setting for a six-part drama series.

Ashley Jensen leads the cast as Kate Dickenson, who is anxious about her colleagues’ reaction to the news that she’s about to be promoted to Superinten­dent. Just to add to the pressure, Kate is dealing with problems at home.

GREGORY PORTER’S POPULAR

VOICES Friday, BBC4, 9.50pm MANY people would say that Grammy award-winning soul and jazz star Gregory Porter is a pretty decent singer himself, but in this series, he’s putting the spotlight on some of the other great voices of modern music.

Here he examines three styles of singing – the croon, the growl and the virtuosic voice – and the ways they have evolved over the history of popular music.
