Kendal trip a piece of cake for the ladies

WHITLEY Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club’s senior ladies’ team enjoyed an emphatic 7-0 victory at Kendal.

After a minute’s silence to mark Remebrance Sunday, Bay pressed Kendal from the bully-off and enjoyed fantastic possession.

Alex Plummer, worked tirelessly from the back and made great connections down the right with Harriet Moore, Faye Garland and Cailtin Newby.

The first goal came after eight minutes of great forward play.

Further strikes were registered from two fantastic drag flicks by Lottie Gill and fine finishing by Joss Plummer, Sophie Ward and Caitlin Newby.

Bay went into half time with a 6-0 lead.

Kendal found their touch in the second period.

Usefull young players up front meant Bay’s defenders had to make several crucial tackles.

One further goal was scored by Kerry-Anne Hastings.

Bay travel to Didsbury Northern this weekend hoping for a similarly positive performance.

■■BAY’s senior men’s side suffered last-minute agony as they conceded a penalty stroke to draw 2-2 at home to Wakefield HC.

The first half was a close affair with both sides having chances.

Chris Traynor missed the oportunity of the half when he put a penalty flick on to the crossbar.

In the seventh minute of the second period the visitors took the lead as Sam Shute’s shot slipped under Jordan Thompson in goal and dribbled over the line.

However, when a sin bin left Wakefield with 10 men Whitley Bay took full advantage and laid siege on the Yorkshire side’s goal for the next 10 minutes.

Traynor drew the teams level as he followed up a rebound of his own initial shot, slapping the ball high into the top corner.

It was then Wakefield’s turn to have the man advantage as Jackson and Ithurralde were both sin-binned.

However, on the break Bay took the lead again with just a minute left through Ethan Skirving.

The drama did not end there, though, as Bay were caught out with a quick restart, Jonathan Stoddart not getting five yards and being immediately sin-binned.

Down to nine men, Bay could not stop the ball being played high and wide and a penalty stroke was awarded for the ball hitting Mike Pollock’s leg. Greg Moorehouse dispatched the resulting flick.
