Newcastle flight makes emergency landing
AN EasyJet flight from Newcastle to Malaga was forced to make an emergency landing in France after a dramatic loss of altitude.
Flight EZY6407 took off from Newcastle International Airport at approximately 2.20pm on Monday but the plane began to rapidly descend while flying over the Bay of Biscay and landed at Brest Airport in North West France.
EasyJet has not yet confirmed the cause of the emergency landing, but one passenger on Twitter said smoke could be smelled inside the cabin.
Nigel Acris tweeted: “@ easyJet flight from Newcastle to Malaga emergency landed in Brest France, smoke smells and we still sat in the plane – another easyJet fiasco.”
Asked whether he knew what the issue was, he replied: “No information other than it’s being investigated.”
Online plane trackers show the flight was travelling at a steady height of approximately 37,000ft for an hour before it descended to just 12,000ft within a few minutes.
A statement on the airline’s website reads: “Your flight is diverting to Brest. We will keep you updated with any further information. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
