Jarrow and Hebburn celebrate impressive 10-mile race victory

-

JARROW and Hebburn trio Georgia Campbell, Steph Pattinson and Alex Sneddon are still celebrating after their Brampton to Carlisle team success at the weekend.

It was a resounding victory for the South Tyneside women who won handsomely after finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively in what is billed as England’s oldest 10-mile road race.

I met up with the squad minutes before the race got under way and they were in a confident mood saying it would be disappointing if they didn’t come out on top despite the race attracting close to 600.

So, as the athletes crossed the finish line in Carlisle it didn’t need the computer to work out the team awards for the Jarrow team totalled a near unbeatable total of just 12 points to not only receive the promoters first team awards but also the prestigious Northern Athletics Championship gold medals.

And there was added celebration for two of the team, Campbell and Pattinson, who were on the podium a second time to receive the NA individual silver and bronze medals making it a profitable day all-round.

It wasn’t to say they didn’t work hard for their awards for Campbell (58:36) and Pattinson (60:55) both recorded times a minute quicker than they had ran before with Pattinson running nearly three minutes faster than she did in last year’s race.

Sneddon, meanwhile, was pleased to be part of the gold-medal winning team despite finishing fifth after being runner-up last year.

“The victory is great for Jarrow and Hebburn and we are over the moon to win,” she said.
