BEST OF THE REST
LOVE, LIES & RECORDS BBC1, 9pm
THERE was plenty to get our teeth into as this Kay Mellor drama kicked off last week, and she packs in the storylines as if all of television will end tomorrow.
Before the opening credits alone, James (Mark Stanley) appears as Jamie for the first time – in floral dress and new black pumps, Kate (Ashley Jenson) and Rob (Adrian Bower) confront their daughter over the RacerBoy texts, and we discover that Rob may not actually be divorced. Slightly awkward since they were planning on getting married.
Later, there’s more opportunity for Rebecca Front to play the villain as her character Judy blackmails Kate. With a soap-like feel, this is a big sentimental drama that checks off every emotion.
JOHN BISHOP IN CONVERSATION WITH JEREMY CORBYN W, 9pm
JOHN BISHOP moves into the chat show big leagues here, as he interviews Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
There’s an instant rapport between the pair, with the 68-year-old politician happy to take John’s banter in good humour. But John is not afraid to tackle serious questions, challenging him on accusations of anti-semitism against the Labout Party, as well as allegations he is a terrorist sympathiser.
John also chats to him about his personal life, including the horror of having to collect his brother’s body from Papua New Guinea, after he died of a brain haemorrhage, and how he met his wife after supporting the case of her abducted niece.
Quizzed on the one thing he would want to achieve if he was in No. 10, Corbyn answers without hesitation.
