Sharks show teeth to hold Tomahawks

-

WHITLEY Tomahawks’ threegame winning run came to an end in English Under-15 North Division Two when they were held to a 5-5 draw by Kingston Sharks at Hull Ice Arena.

It was a very closely-contested encounter between teams who share second place behind Sutton Sting.

The Sharks were beaten 6-1 at Hillheads by the Tomahawks in September and were looking to gain revenge.

Kingston had two early powerplay opportunities early on - but Tomahawks’ netminder Bobby Campbell kept them at bay.

With Matthew Wood in the penalty box for a 2+10 check-tothe-head penalty, Whitley went ahead while short-handed through their top scorer Thomas Fraser (pictured left, on left) at 14.23.

Kingston restored parity 33 seconds later through Isaac Cornell.

Fraser added his second of the game four minutes into the second period but a lack of discipline again brought about a second equaliser for Kingston.

Liam Rowell was the player sitting out, Adam Jasecko scoring at 2.47.

It was end to end now but the Tomahawks went ahead for the third time through Owen Curry’s second strike of the season at 21.43.

Just 69 seconds later Bobby Campbell was beaten as Declan Jones made it 3-3.

The home side went ahead for the first time in the match at 33.33 - Tyler Sheard on target but from the restart Fraser drove home his hat-trick marker and in total his 13th of the season for Tomahawks.

A third powerplay goal of the game for the home side saw them go 5-4 ahead at 38.54.

The home side was shorthanded for the third time when Josh Hutton rifled home his second effort of the season.

With a little under two minutes still to go, the visitors called a time out to settle nerves and halt Kingston’s pressure on Campbell’s net.

It worked and a share of the spoils was well deserved for the North Tyneside outfit.
