Wood far from humble ahead of Area title clash
CHRISSY WOOD, managed by Newcastle’s Steve Wraith, is forecasting that he will shock Geordie Jamie Humble by ripping the Northern Area super bantamweight strap from his grasp.
“I wanted to fight for the Area title at some point when I came back to the sport and its credit to Steve for getting me it in only my second fight,” said Wood.
“I respect Humble but I’m confident I will beat him, without a shadow of a doubt that belt is staying with me in Darlington.
“He is in for one hell of a shock if he thinks the way he is, underestimating me, and although I respect him I know I am going to win.”
Returning at St James Park in September when defeating Russ Midgeley on points, Wood did enough to set himself up for a shot at the title.
“Both camps I’ve had for Midgeley and now Humble have been top quality with some fantastic sparring,” add Wood. “Granted there’s been a few things to work on, to improve on, but that’s what we all do in the sport. It’s done for every fight.
“I’ve sparred Stuey Hall, Joe Tyres, and Joe Maphosa at home, and been on the road with the Yafai’s and Jason Cunningham, which I owe to Stuey and coach Peter Shepperson for opening the doors. I couldn’t have asked for better and I’ve held my own while in with them as well so doing the 10 rounds is no problem.”
