Up close and very seasonal

- BY GORDON BARR

LINDISFARNE fans have a unique chance to see the band play an intimate charity gig as they warm up for their near-legendary Newcastle City Hall Christmas shows.

The Tyneside folk rockers will perform the special set at The Cluny in Newcastle in aid of the Future Fund which is the band’s chosen charity which backs world-leading and ground-breaking research into children’s cancers at Newcastle University.

For the past three years the band have backed the charity through their Christmas shows at the City Hall.

They will once again be giving the charity a fundraising platform at the City Hall live shows next month, but this year with the added bonus of proceeds from the intimate Cluny live show.

The revitalised band are busier than ever and 2017 has again seen them criss-cross the UK playing festivals and packed houses.

The band is now fronted by founding member and songwriter Rod Clements alongside Lindisfarne stalwarts Charlie Harcourt, Dave Hull-Denholm, Ian Thomson, Steve Daggett and former Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson.

The six-piece will play a warm-up gig at The Cluny on December 12 and have a few musical surprises in store for those lucky enough to get a ticket for the performance, dubbed Lindisfarne – Up Close and Seasonal.

The charity gig will be the perfect festive treat for anyone heading to the City Hall Christmas dates on Friday December 22 and Saturday December 23.

Rod said: “All the proceeds are going towards the Future Fund which helps finance some truly stunning work at Newcastle University which is changing lives.

“The gig is also a perfect opportunity for us to road test some different material from the Lindisfarne back catalogue in advance of our return to the City Hall.”

Tickets for the Cluny performance have just gone on sale http://www. seetickets.com/event/lindisfarne/thecluny/1179120 and some tickets are still available for the City Hall shows which can be bought via https://www. theatreroyal.co.uk/whats-on/lindisfarne
