What to avoid if you want to keep your weight down
SCIENTISTS have discovered that stress really can make you overweight.
Researchers from the University of California found women who suffered one traumatic event in the past five years were 11% more likely to be obese.
But it’s not the only factor that can affect your size:
BORING WORKOUTS
Sticking to the same workout day in day out will eventually discourage you from working hard and pushing yourself.
SLEEP DEPRIVATION
People who are sleep deprived eat more – on average, an extra 300 calories a day.
BUYING COFFEE
Some hot drinks from high street coffee shops contain more than 600 calories each.
NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER
Dehydration can trick the body into thinking it’s hungry.
SITTING
Thanks to a rise in sedentary jobs, the average person moves for just seven hours a day.
SMARTPHONES
Blue light from smartphones can make it more difficult to drop off, resulting in sleep deprivation and weight gain.
EATING WITH MUSIC ON
Listening to ourselves chew reduces the probability of over-eating.
EATING TOO MUCH SALT
Salt can trick the body into consuming more food.
DRINKING
Alcohol contains calories and typically makes you eat an extra 384 calories a day compared to a day when you don’t drink.
