Christmas lights have real meaning

-

NEWBIGGIN Hall under-18 girls are looking for a few players to strengthen their team. Our winter training is at Studio West, West Denton, Newcastle upon Tyne. Everyone with any abilities is welcome to come join us.

KEV, TEL: 07496 034162 THE bright Christmas tree lights in Gosforth really do have a meaning, apart from helping the airplanes to land at Newcastle Airport!

Each Christmas light represents a cancer patient journey to and from the Freeman/RVI Hospitals.

For patients, at Christmas time especially, the cancer charity helps by taking the stress and anxiety out of getting to and from hospital and really is a big blessing.

So when you pass Daft as a Brush House on the Great North Road, please give a thought for all the kind volunteer staff who make it all happen.

The 40,000 Christmas lights are switched on at 3pm each day and, as a special treat, if a primary school would like to do the honours then please contact the trust secretary Jean Ross on 0191 285 5999 to make the necessary arrangements.

A big ‘thank you’ to James Cookson at Meldon Hall who kindly donated the tree; Stan Dawson who brought it down; and B&Q for their donation.

Many thanks to all the hardworking staff who made this year’s display such a huge success. BRIAN BURNIE, Daft as a
