Laughing for a great cause

- BY SIMON DUKE

IT’S raised loads of money for Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids, as well as gathering thousands of Christmas presents in the past two years and comedy extravaganza Laffs4Kids is coming back for more in 2017.

Laffs4Kids, the brainchild of award winning comedian and writer Jason Cook, launched in 2015 after he discovered that 40,000 local children would go without a Christmas present, unless Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign stepped in to help.

Desperately wanting to contribute, Jason called his comedian friends and over the last two years the line-up has included Chris Ramsey, Tim Healy, Stefan Peddie, The Mimic Men and The Geordie Rat Pack plus lots of other well-known faces and local heroes.

It’s billed as the ‘happiest comedy show you have ever been to’ for one specific reason: the entry fee is simply a new and unwrapped Christmas present for a disadvantaged child. And the North East community have certainly delivered, with over 7,000 presents donated on the night for the last two years.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, December 12, at Newcastle City Hall and on the bill are Jason; South Shields queen of comedy Sarah Millican; Chris Ramsey, who will return to Laffs4Kids fresh from his 2017 headline tour, which saw him play his biggest gig to date at the Metro Radio Arena; Justin Moorhouse known for his role in Phoenix Nights, Liverpool Comedian of the Year Adam Rowe, Carl Hutchinson, as seen on Comedy Central, and The Geordie Rat Pack with the Paul James Band.

Entry fee to Laffs4Kids 2017 is still a new and unwrapped Christmas present, there is also a seat reservation fee of £5 to control numbers and ensure there are seats for all.

Reservations can be made at www.theatreroyal.co.uk or by telephone 08448 11 21 21.
