Deal Khaz a chance of happening

-

SUNDERLAND could receive a boost to their January transfer funds through the permanent sale of Wahbi Khazri to Rennes, with the French club’s president not ruling it out.

New Black Cats manager Chris Coleman is desperate to add new faces to his squad during next month’s winter transfer window.

However, he admits selling players face might be the only way to generate money to spend.

Khazri is spending the season on loan at Ligue 1 side Rennes where he has impressed and been a key figure in an impressive campaign which sees them sitting sixth.

He has scored six goals in ten appearances in total.

Asked about Khazri’s future and the potential of trying to sign him permanently during next month’s window, Rennes’ president Olivier Letang said: “There is a loan without option to buy.

“Since he is under contract with an English club, I would say to you in the tone of the joke - he must stop scoring goals!

“The more he goes to score, the more we will be in difficulty but it is really a joke.

“His profile is very interesting, now and for the future.”

Given the situation and Khazri’s excellent form which is likely to attract other suitors, working out a permanent deal in January might be in the interests of both clubs.

Winger Khazri was signed by former boss Sam Allardyce but he never produced his best form at the Stadium of Light.

He was frozen out by Allardyce’s successor David Moyes last season.

Meanwhile, Coleman is believed to be keen on a deal for Liverpool full-back Ben Woodburn, who he knows from his Wales days.
