Team work makes girls’ dream work

TODAY WE TALK TO 2ND CHESTER-LESTREET BROWNIES

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money? The money from our fundraising will help us enable all girls in our unit to attend activity days and future holidays in which the girls develop their independence, social and emotional skills. Tell us about your group. Our unit has been running since 1957, at present we have between 30 and 40 members and 12 adult volunteers for our unit. We have had thousands of girls aged between seven and 11 years old through our doors since the unit first opened.

We give the girls a safe place to be their best and face the challenges of growing up. We offer them adventure and a chance to make lifelong friendships whilst encouraging them to challenge themselves in trying a many different activities as possible. What kind of activities take place at your group? Outdoor activities, crafts, baking, wood craft, holiday and activity days. Who is the longest serving member of your group? Me, Paula Jones. I’ve been running 2nd Chester-leStreet Brownies for 19 years. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We took a group of 60 girls to Scotland to stay in a Guiding house. The girls took part in fire lighting, outdoor cooking, geocaching, zip wire and caving. What is your group’s proudest moment to date? The group’s proudest moment to date was organising for more than 200 girls the opportunity to sleep over at a local venue to celebrate the Brownie centenary. This enabled the girls the opportunity to see how large the movement is in our local area. Why should someone join your group? We welcome everyone with open arms. We give girls and adults a like a chance to experience a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words? Friendly, chatty, loving, talkative people
