Cash boost One for gym club to savour
GYMNASTICS
A GYMNASTICS club in Northumberland has an extra spring in its step after scooping a £10,000 national award to buy new equipment for its 300 members.
Wansbeck Gymnastics Club will be able to kit out its two sites with a range of new apparatus after being awarded the money by financial services company OneFamily as part of its Community Awards.
The group, which welcomes members aged 18 months up to adults at Ashington Leisure Centre and Newbiggin Sports Centre, will use the funding to buy a range of vital training equipment including floor mats and springboards.
The awards are part of the OneFamily Foundation and were created to give OneFamily customers the opportunity to support projects in their area which matter to them and their families.
Rachel Rutherford, who has a trust fund for her daughter with OneFamily, put Wansbeck Gymnastics Club forward as her daughter is a member.
This year’s awards saw customers nominating projects to win £5,000, £10,000 or £25,000 across four categories.
Wansbeck GC is one of 32 groups to have won an award in this latest round. Club head coach Liz Naylor said: “We are overwhelmed the community voted for us to win this award.
“We have two club sites which are both in need of some improvement, so it is a real relief we can finally give our members the training facilities they deserve.
“The new equipment means our gymnasts can train to their full potential and thoroughly prepare for competitions.”
Guy French, corporate and customer strategy director at OneFamily said: “Wansbeck Gymnastics Club is a fantastic group, which provides a place where hundreds of children from across the community can have fun and enjoy sport. The projects the awards support are all very special to our customers and make a positive difference in their local communities.
“The Foundation is a way we give something back to our customers and each year we give hundreds of thousands of pounds to causes which matter to them most.
“Last year, we touched the lives of more than 100,000 people through our awards and grants.
“This year we hope to make the Community Awards even bigger and better.”
