Our youngsters just love to get creative

TODAY WE TALK TO 8TH NEWCASTLE GIRLS’ BRIGADE

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

Our children really enjoy doing crafts.

We would like to buy some aprons/overalls to protect their uniforms as well as more craft materials such as paints, glue, paper and scissors.

We would be so happy to receive a share of the Wish fund this year. The children would help to choose the crafts that they enjoy doing most.

Tell us about your group.

Our company was formed in 1931.

We have five leaders and nine young leaders in training who have been in our group from the age of five.

Our company has grown in numbers over the past two years and we now have 20 children aged five to 11 years of age.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

There are a wide variety of activ- ities that our members have fun taking part in.

Some of these include games, crafts, cookery, team challenges and badge work.

Who is the longest serving member of your group?

We have lots of long-serving members but Helen Jordan has been a member since the age of five.

She is now 27 and is one of our leaders.

Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We take part in so many activities.

The biggest in recent memory was an activity weekend at Kingswood Adventure Centre in Hexham.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

One that comes to mind is that our young leaders have just completed their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and currently doing their Silver Award. Why should someone join your group? To make friends, have lots of fun and enjoy being a member of a great organisation the Girls’ Brigade.

What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

Geordie are genuine caring people.
