The Chronicle

Where are Chronicle’s bonny babies?

WE’D LIKE TO RETURN TROPHY TO A WINNER

-

CALLING the Chronicle Bonny Babies of yesteryear... We’ve been having a bit of a clear-out here at our HQ, and have come across this long-forgotten trophy.

It’s a smart, little cup with the competition winners’ names engraved on it.

We’d like to reunite it with one of our winners from years gone by.

Our Bonny Baby gong was awarded annually, usually every August at the Tyneside Summer Exhibition, between 1966 and 1993.

Our photographs from the Chronicle archive show some of the past winners.

So, we meet Susan Barber who landed the trophy in August, 1968; Kirsten Taylor who was winner in 1971; Marie Ambler who came first in 1974; and Victoria McIntyre who was our Bonny Baby of 1979.

The very first winner in 1966 was Karen Austin. She will be about 52 today.

The last winner was Monique Slater in 1993. She’ll be around 25.

And that’s when the competition

Jackson; 1968, Susan Barber; 1969, Mandy Turner; 1970, Victoria Young; 1971, Kirsten Jane Taylor; 1972, Ailsa Jeanette Bates; 1973, Karen Leigh; 1974, Marie Ann Ambler; 1975, Beverley Hodgson; 1976, Joanne Platt; 1977, Chui Yee Cheung; 1978, Emma Cooper; 1979, Victoria McIntyre; 1980, Michelle Copeland; 1981, Karen Marie Knight; 1982, Carly Jayne Harris; 1983; Danielle Leigh Marston; 1984, Nicola Jane Hayes; 1985, Louise Gray; 1986, Zoe Birkett; 1987, Laura Ann Rickwood; 1988, Katie Louise Dunn; 1989, Teri Battista; 1990, Monique Ruth Carr; 1991, Stephanie Cragie; 1992, no competition; 1993, Monique Slater. Notice, they’re all girls, by the way! If any of our former winners - or family members or friends - recognise a name in our list of winners, do get in touch.

If they’d be prepared to have modern photographs taken as part of a feature for the Chronicle, we’d like to give the trophy back to one of our original winners. Email Nostalgia Editor, Dave Morton at david.morton.editorial@ ncjmedia.co.uk

In the event of multiple entries, we’ll put the names in a hat, draw one at random, and the trophy will be given to them to keep. The Editor’s decision will be final.

Finally, to all our former Bonny Babies and their families, we hope the years have been good to them.
