Dragons slain by the Tomahawks

-

WHITLEY Tomahawks returned to winning ways with a 7-1 victory at Deeside Dragons.

In doing so, they stretched their unbeaten run to five matches since their narrow opening-day 5-4 defeat at Sutton Sting.

For the second successive match Joshua Hutton found the net as he gave Tomahawks the lead in the ninth minute.

Whitley could have taken the lead earlier but found Dragons’ netminder Kian Gudger difficult to beat.

The lead was doubled five minutes later when McLaughlin netted his second goal of the season.

The Tomahawks began the middle period on the powerplay with a two-man advantage but they did convert for 3-0 after one of Deeside’s penalties had been served.

Thomas Fraser was on the scoresheet at 16.02 and 13 seconds later he set up Matthew Wood for his third goal of the season and a 4-0 advantage.

Deeside cut the deficit three minutes later through their captain Luke Wainwright.

In the final period Whitley, as in the previous two sessions, had plenty of possession and went in search of goals - but Gudger was not keen to help their cause.

It took the Tomahawks four minutes into the final period for the visitors to add to their tally and it was Fraser (pictured, on left) at 34.20 who struck his 15th Tomahawks’ goal of the season.

Owen Curry quickly followed for his third counter of the campaign 12 seconds later.

There were no further goals until the final minute when, with the Tomahawks short-handed for the third time, Hutton notched his fourth goal of the season with 50 seconds remaining.

The two teams meet again this Sunday at Hillheads (12.30).

WHITLEY Braves played host to Sutton Sting in English Under-18 North Division Two.

The Sting came to Hillheads as leaders and having a 100% record.

There was not much between the sides throughout - but it was Sutton who took the points with the only goal of the game.

It came just 37 seconds into the final period, Morgan Glasby putting his name on the scoresheet.

The Braves’ next game is on Saturday, January 6, when they travel to Manchester Storm.
