Frosty response to school closures

-

AS the recent “cold snap” affected the Home Counties the first ten minutes of the TV news has all been about the weather. It’s winter, it happens. It shouldn’t be national news.

However, when you hear these stories they are inevitably accompanied by the words “school closures”.

What is it about our precious little darlings, and the precious teachers, that makes them unable to leave the house?

You never hear a cold weather story accompanied by the words “shop closures” or “factory closures” or “hospital closures”. In fact the rest of the country manages to press on regardless and go to work, we have no choice.

I know that headteachers these days are hugely important people and that they can actually make these decrees that affect many hundreds of people.

You get a text early on a morning letting you know that your child will not be going to school today.

What happens next is that you need to make last-minute childcare arrangements and if you can’t you need to take a day off which again affects others as your workmates who have managed to get to work will be short-handed.

Your pay packet at the end of the week is also short as you do not get paid for simply not going to work, but heaven forbid that the schools would open and precious little Hugo or Jemima may slip and then daddy sues the school.

The world is going mad. It’s the winter, it gets cold and sometimes it snows. K NICHOLSON,

Boldon
