Dan could be the man for Spartans in a big clash with Bromley

- By JEFF BOWRON

HITMAN Dan Maguire has emerged as a key figure ahead of Blyth Spartans’ big FA Trophy game against Bromley tomorrow.

Maguire has been sidelined for several weeks with a foot injury but is now back in training.

He has a chance of being in the squad to face Bromley, ninth in the Vanarama National League and one point from the play-offs.

Blyth could do with one of their talismen involved against the Ravens, Maguire recently signing up with the Achieve Management Agency.

Manager Alun Armstrong is keen to have his star striker back – and to play down speculation about the 25-yearold’s future. Armstrong (inset) said: “Maguire has been a miss, though we still scored four goals against Gainsborough last weekend. “His injury has dragged on and while I am hopeful he will play some part on Saturday he may have to play through the pain barrier. “I spoke to him about the agent announcement and it has nothing to do with him wanting to be away from the club whatsoever. He is enjoying his time here and it will cost a lot of money to take him away from Blyth Spartans.”

Former Inverness Caledonian schemer Lewis Horner has also returned to training, Bromley the joint leading scorers in the league above.

Armstrong added: “We want to be in the National League, so this will be a good test for us, and there is also £7,000 in prize money at stake.”
