Man in court for urinating in staff area of shopping centre
A BRAZEN man sneaked into a staff area of Eldon Square and urinated over the floor before threatening security.
Wayne Dale was spotted walking into the room, which is not open to the public, and relieving himself one morning in December last year.
The 40-year-old was followed into the area by a security officer and he immediately apologised and offered to clear it up, a court heard.
But, when the officer radioed for back-up, Dale became aggressive and threatened to throw him down the “f ****** stairs”.
Fearing for his safety, the security guard detained Dale and kept him on the floor until police arrived, prosecutors said.
Now, the dad-of-three, from Redheugh Court, in Gateshead, has been given a community order after he pleaded guilty to a public order offence at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Holly Common told the court Dale was spotted by a security officer in Eldon Square at around 11am on December 14.
She said: “He observed the defendant go through a set of doors clearly marked ‘staff only’. The security officer followed the defendant and witnessed him standing in that area urinating on the ground. He asked him what he was doing and told him to stop. The defendant offered to clean up the urine and the security officer radioed for assistance. The defendant became increasingly agitated and began to swear.”
