BEST OF THE REST

-

NEXT OF KIN ITV, 9pm

NOT everyone was convinced by this thriller, which started last week with a terrorist attack in London and an abduction and murder in Pakistan. It was accused of having clunky storylines and not enough tension. But the plot picks up pace this week, and no one can argue with the brilliant performances by the cast – including Archie Panjabi as Mona and Jack Davenport as her husband Guy.

Mona has secretly made contact with Kareem’s son Danny in Lahore, while the rest of the family still believe him to have swanned off to Spain. Now Mona is approached by police counter terrorism chief Vivien Barnes to travel to Pakistan and identify Kareem’s body.

While there she tries to make contact with Danny. And of course, she finds herself in danger.

EXTREME CAKE MAKERS Channel 4, 5.30pm

DAISY the cow really is best in show. She is 3ft tall, weighs 13 stone and is made from 28 chocolate fudge cakes and nearly four stone of sugar paste. Holy cow, you’re thinking! But this is just one of the incredible creations on display in this latest series about extreme baking.

Molly Robbins, 26, is responsible for the edible cow, which she made for a baking festival in Bakewell. In the past she’s made everything from a giant Shetland pony to a massive ‘cake’ pie and chips.

Elsewhere, wedding cake specialist Suzanne Thorpe hopes to impress grooms-to-be Jeffery and Thomas by individually hand sculpting over 200 individual sugar leaves for her stunning showstopper.
