Clash of the titans ends up all square

THE top-of-the-table clash between Bedlington (second) and Blyth Spartans Reserves (first) finished all square as the visitors dropped their first points of the season in a 3-3 draw.

A double from each side’s top scorer featured, the hosts snatching a point at the death.

Joe Moscrop gave Bedlington the lead and Karl Lazzari levelled just before the interval.

Lazzari gave Spartans a second-half advantage on 58 minutes which Andy Murray increased seven minutes later.

Bedlington, though, struck back in the final minutes as first Moscrop, with his second, offered hope six minutes from time before Andrew Welsh earned a share of the spoils with two minutes remaining.

Cramlington United maintained their push for a top-four finish when they defeated visitors Whitburn 4-1.

Steven Walker afforded Whitburn a first-half lead before braces from Niall Younger and Craig Quinn in the second period ensured the points stayed at home.

Ross Dickinson bagged a hat-trick for Wideopen as they triumphed 4-1 at Whitley Sporting Club, Dan Haggerston also netting while Ross Seaman replied for the hosts.

Willington Quay Saints came through 2-1 at Seghill and the game between Redheugh and Coundon finished 1-1. ■■WINLATON Vulcans reached the final of the Durham Minor Cup with a come-from-behind victory at Gateshead Stone Trough.

Leading with a goal just after the half-hour from Scott Palmer, the Northern Alliance outfit found themselves 2-1 behind early in the second half.

However, they rallied well as substitute Chris Hepple levelled on 70 minutes to set up a tense finale.

As the tie ticked into the final ten minutes, Dean Hall fired home from distance to turn the game back around.

Matty Atkin put the Vulcans into the final with the decisive fourth four minutes from time. ■■IN the Northumberland Minor Cup, a Jack Fennell strike was just consolation for Blyth Town as they crashed out 2-1 after extratime to Haltwhistle Jubilee.
