NEWCASTLE University returned to the top by earning a 2-0 win at home to lowly North Shields Athletic, although it should have been more - the hosts having three goals disallowed.

Olly Walden broke the deadlock on 35 minutes - but the hosts were made to wait until the five minutes after the restart before striking a decisive second, Tom Woodier firing home.

Shankhouse were held to a 1-1 draw at home to basement outfit FC United of Newcastle.

The visitors led through Heeney on the half-hour before Marshall earned a point shortly after the restart.

Ashington Colliers also dropped points, losing 4-3 at Percy Main for whom Jake Forster scored twice early on.

Nellis (2) and Gibson replied for the Colliers but the Main retaliated with further efforts from Senior and Collinson.

Wallington won 6-1 at Newbiggin, Thomas Truscott bagging a hattrick alongside goals from Jordan Nellis, Kyle Reardon and Aidan Armstrong - the hosts’ consolation coming shortly before the interval through Ross Muter.

Killingworth Town enjoyed a 5-2 home win over Northbank Carlisle, racing into a three-goal lead inside 15 minutes through Louis Howe, Mark Dixon and Lee Waugh.

Michael Hayton and Dan Carruthers gave the visitors hope after the break in pulling back two goals but that sprang the hosts back to life and they completed the victory with a Jordan Miller effort and a stunning own goal from distance.

The Challenge Cup semi-finals were decided - and Seaton Delaval will oppose Ponteland United in the decider.

Delaval took a first-half lead at Birtley Town through Michael Baxter after just 17 minutes.

Matty Haydon double the advantage just after the hour mark before a nervous final 15 minutes for the visitors.

Birtley first pulled a goal back through Dan Hill before Delaval went down to 10 men with nine minutes remaining.

However, they held on for the victory.

Meanwhile the Pont were taken the distance at home to cup battlers Gateshead A, finally going through 6-5 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in extra-time.

Matty Halliday notched twice for the visitors to give them hope, Elliott Fobbs with the other.

However, Pont scored through Kane Gellatsby, Ethan Bewley and Alex Benjamin to put them on their way to a narrow victory.
