Ship sunk by Tavern in a real cup shocker

GUIDEPOST Shakespear­e Tavern pulled off a shock 3-2 win over Newbiggin New Ship in round one of the J D Marnock Cup.

Goals for the New Ship came from David Jobson and Kevin Halliday.

Michael Walton led the scoring for the Tavern with a brace, Richard Burn also on target.

Bedlington Sunday also clinched a home victory against Ashington Station Lounge.

However, they did it the hard way - coming from 3-0 down at the break to progress with five goals in the second period.

Ashington Sporting Club also reached the competitio­n’s second round with a 2-1 home success against Marden Residents.

Ryan Crocker and Mark Mabon scored for Sporting Club, Grant Starling for the Residents.

Cramlingto­n Green went down 6-4 at home against North Blyth Bar.

On target for the Green were Michael Jordan (2), Jamie Summers and Scott Smith.

Matty Nelson hit a hat-trick for the Bar, Andrew Bell netting twice and Liam Thompson completing the scoring.

Ellington Plough lost 2-1 at home to Bebside Inn.

Trevor Newman struck for the Plough, David Carling and Robin Sharp for Bebside.

East Chevington reached the semi-finals of the NAF Minor Cup by beating Blakelaw Towers on penalties.

In the Premier Division, Bedlington Social Club United played hosts to Blyth Town Sunday.

The scores were level at 1-1 with the home side pushing for a winner.

However, they found the Town goalkeeper in fine form as he kept them at bay.

The Town scored two late goals to take all three points.

Joe Bolam notched for the Bedlington side, strikes for Town from Kevin Long, Ryan McKee and Martyn Hepple.

Ashington RAOB had to fight all the way to gain the derby points at home against near-neighbours Ashington Whitehouse.

Kyle Downey put the Buffs in front from the penalty spot but Jordan Lashley drew the Whitehouse level, also with a spot kick.

It looked like a draw until Liam Davidson grabbed RAOB’s winner in the last minute.
