Blues put on spot but will host Magpies

-

NEWCASTLE United will be making the trip to Stamford Bridge in the fourth round of the FA Cup after Chelsea squeezed past Norwich City on penalties in last night’s third-round replay.

The Premier League side were just seconds away from securing victory in normal time thanks to a Michy Batshuayi goal after 55 minutes.

But Sky Bet Championship side Norwich struck back with the last touch of the 90 minutes when Jamal Lewis headed home a dramatic equaliser to take the game into extra-time.

Chelsea were reduced to nine men when they had Pedro and Alvaro Morata sent off in extratime, as the teams finished level at 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Norwich City’s Nelson Oliveira saw his spot-kick saved by Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero, penalties from Willian, David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard ensuring Chelsea went through to a fourth-round home tie against Newcastle, to be played on January 28.

Elsewhere, League One leaders Wigan stunned top-flight Bournemouth with a thumping 3-0 win in the FA Cup third round.

The Latics secured a fourthround home tie against West Ham with goals by Sam Morsy, Dan Burn and Callum Elder.

Both sides had made changes for the replay but Bournemouth’s fans were left unimpressed by their team’s efforts.

Jordan Ayew scored a goal reminiscent of Ricky Villa for Tottenham in the 1981 final replay as Swansea beat Wolves 2-1.

Ayew burst into the area, cutting one way and the other as he evaded six challenges before slotting past keeper Will Norris.

Diogo Jota equalised for Championship leaders Wolves but three minutes later Wilfried Bony won it for the Swans, who head to Notts County in round four.
