Kian arrives for last round of treatment

BRAVE LAD TOUCHES DOWN IN THE BIG APPLE WITH FAMILY

- By MICHAEL MUNCASTER

Reporter BRAVE Kian Musgrove has touched down in New York for his final round of cancer treatment.

The five-year-old who is fighting neuroblastoma – a rare and aggressive form of children’s cancer – travelled to the Big Apple from Heathrow on Wednesday.

The youngster was pictured clutching his blue suitcase in the airport before embarking on his eight hour flight.

Kian, from Northumberland, will undergo more treatment at a clinic in the city to fight off the remaining cancer cells.

His mum, Kat Musgrove, said: “He will get many blood tests, scans and bone marrow biopsies to see if the cancer is still remaining. So far he is doing OK in himself, his appetite is not good though and he has been complaining of head pain and stomach pain. I do not know if this is from previous treatment damage or if it is something else.

“We are all hoping and praying this treatment cures Kian and that Kian has a life of normality after this round of treatment.

“Kian is so excited to meet his baby sister who is due to be born in April.”

Schoolboy Kian was first diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in October 2013.

The cancer attacked the nerve cells around his kidneys on an adrenal gland where a tumour had developed.

But it then travelled around his body and spread to his bones and across his pelvis.

After treatment to kill off the disease, the cancer came back in December 2015 and he started undergoing treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, in New York, the following year.

Last September, medics told Kat that the disease her son has been fighting had not progressed.

Kian’s family are continuing to raise funds for his treatment, which is costing thousands of pounds.

Kat said: “He still needs funds in case the cancer is back or comes back at a later date.

“The doctor believes if Kian is clear and stays clear for over five years then the chances of it returning are a lot slimmer.”
