Delight at Diamonds as Ludvig signs

-

LONG-SERVING Diamond Ludvig Lindgren is the latest name added to Newcastle’s roster for the new season which begins on Easter weekend, writes BARRY WALLACE.

The 27-year-old Swede first joined the Byker club in 2012 and has been there ever since, taking over the captaincy of the Diamonds three years ago.

Lindgren’s return gives him the chance to add to his 234 appearances in official fixtures for the Diamonds as well as rack up more points to go with 2,119 already notched in Newcastle colours – figures which few others have exceeded.

Co-promoter George English said: “To say I am absolutely delighted Ludvig has agreed to come back again for what will be his seventh successive season as a Diamond is an understatement.

“As well as showing his own spectacular style, particularly around our home track, Ludvig is a great motivator with the rest of the lads and he will again be the Diamonds’ skipper.”

Lindgren will lead his side into their first competitive action when the annual battle with Berwick Bandits for the Tyne Tweed Trophy takes place.

The Diamonds, who retained the silverware last year 100-80 on aggregate, visit Berwick on Saturday, March 31, in the first leg, with the Byker doors opening 24 hours later (tapes up at 6.30) for the return.
