Sky confirms Sunderland screening

-

SUNDERLAND’S Good Friday game at Derby County has will now be shown live on TV.

Sky Sports has announced its latest raft of live Football League games, which runs until the Easter weekend.

The Black Cats’ fixture at promotion-chasing Derby will kick off at 7.45pm. The sides met on the opening night of the season, also live on TV, when they drew 1-1.

The kick-off time means travelling supporters will have to get back home late on the bank holiday. Sunderland host Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday.

That apart, though, they have come out unscathed from the list of matches moved for the broadcasters.

Theirs is one of eight Football League matches to be televised over the Easter weekend, with Middlesbrough’s against Wolverhampton Wanderers kicking off at 5.30pm on Good Friday.

Sky has delayed announcing its fixtures for the weekend of March 17 until the outcome of the FA Cup fourth-round ties are known.

Sunderland were last live on TV earlier this month, when they faced Cardiff City in front of the cameras.

Middlesbrough’s game at home to Leeds United has been moved to Friday, March 2 (7.45pm). ■■Rees Greenwood has joined Conference side Gateshead after being released by Sunderland.

The 22-year-old will play for the Tynesiders until the end of the season, subject to ratification by the Football Association.

In 2016 Greenwood made his Black Cats debut as a substitute for George Honeyman in the 2-2 draw with Watford. It was his only first-team appearance for the club, and he has not been out on loan since either.

Earlier that year the left-sided winger from Winlaton signed the contract which his club agreed to cut short this week half a season early.

Greenwood had been at the Academy of Light since the age of eight.

Relegation to the Championship has provided more opportunities for Sunderland’s youngsters, particularly since Chris Coleman succeeded Simon Grayson as manager.

But while Honeyman has taken his, establishing himself as a firstteam regular, Greenwood has not even been given a squad number, or made it onto the bench for the first team.

The former England Under-20 international will hope that taking a step backward will allow him to move a once-promising career forward.
