Seven up for TyneMet as winning run continues

-

TYNE Met College’s first team continued their great form with a third consecutive win in the ECFA Cat One League.

Following victories against Leeds College and Monkseaton, the North Tynesiders romped to a 7-1 success over Gateshead - their biggest league win of the season so far.

Tyne Met took the lead with a fine angled finish from Regan Paterson.

That goal was closely followed by a second from Cam Cunningham, who finshed a quick counter-attack.

Tyne Met should have been 3-0 up within seconds of the restart but Paterson was denied by Gateshead’s busy goalkeeper.

On 53 minutes Cunningham nabbed his second after being put in the clear by Paterson and cleverly chipping the goalkeeper.

It was soon 4-0 when Cunningham and Paterson linked up to provide Paterson with his second counter.

The same combination set up Paterson for his hat-trick on 67 minutes when he controlled a pass and fired in from 10 yards.

Substitute Truman Hub then added a sixth and the win was capped off when Paul Van-Zandvliet ran through to score.

Gateshead claimed the goal of the game late on with a strike from distance into the far top corner to give them at least a consolation.

TyneMet coach Marc Nash said: “We made a slow start to the season but we have hit a bit of form.

“Some of our first years have really stepped up to the mark.”
