Schemer Sean has a Long list of admirers
JACK HIXON TROPHY WINNER: NUFC’S SEAN LONGSTAFF
OF all the Newcastle United Academy graduates who are out on loan, few are making as big an impression as midfielder Longstaff, writes CHRIS WAUGH.
The 20-year-old - whose younger brother Matthew is also in the Magpies’ youth set-up - is out on loan at League One Blackpool, having gained vital experience during a temporary spell at Scottish top-flight outfit Kilmarnock last season.
A tall, rangy attacking midfielder, Longstaff has a knack of ghosting into the opposition box late and contributing an invaluable number of goals from the engine room.
He scored five times in his his first 18 league starts for the Tangerines this season - with a few of those appearing to be early goal-of-the-season contenders too.
Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer has already tipped schemer Longstaff to “become some player” once he fully develops physically.
Though he is yet to make his first-team debut for Newcastle, Longstaff is considered to be among the most promising talents in United’s under-23 squad.
Already clubs including Rangers and AFC Bournemouth have been tracking Longstaff’s progress - with the midfielder poised to flourish in the professional game long term, whether it be on Tyneside or elsewhere.
Though, given the fact he is was born and raised in North Shields, Newcastle fans will hope he is eventually pulling on the black-and-white-striped shirt.
