Tributes to be paid to mark a year since man died in crash

CAR ENTHUSIASTS MEET TO HONOUR VICTIM OF ACCIDENT

- By MICHAEL MUNCASTER

Reporter CAR enthusiasts will come together to celebrate the life of tragic Barry Carmon - a year after he was killed in a head-on crash on the A1.

Dad-of-three Barry died when his Subaru Impreza collided with a Ford Transit van on Saturday, April 8 last year. Police said the van driver, a 24-year-old man, was heading south in the northbound lane of the road at Newton-on-theMoor when he collided with Barry’s car. Now, Subaru owners are being encouraged to attend the Belford Classic Car Show on Sunday, April 22 this year to mark the first anniversary of his death. They will then drive their highpowered vehicles in convoy through his home town of Belford in Northumberland. Barry’s cousin Robin Foulis, 43, said: “He had always been into his Subarus and I just thought it’d be a nice gesture a year after he passed.

“I met up with him on the day when he had his car accident. I had come down from Scotland for the week for a bit of chat as I hadn’t seen him for a while.

“Barry had wanted to go to that car show and it was a shock for me when I heard what had happened when he was coming back from the show.

“He was quite well known in the car scene so I want to get the Subaru community together again and make it a big one to remember him.”

Delivery driver Barry, 30, fell in love with cars from a young age and he would often go to rallying events. And his hero was legendary racing driver Colin McRae, who was Britain’s first rally world champion in 1995. Barry was also passionate about online computer gaming and was a member of the United Kingdom Elite Gentleman’s Gaming Club. Paying tribute to his pal, Aaran Watson said: “He was always the person to make everyone smile and make sure everyone was involved. “He was more like a brother to me than a friend. He loved his Subaru and was really popular with everyone in the car scene.” Last May, hundreds of car enthusiasts drove their vehicles in convoy down the A1 in tribute to Barry. Some cars bore stickers saying “cruising with angels Baz 19862017” while others revved their engines as they drove from Berwick to Seahouses. The drivers then made their way to Seahouses car park where they released balloons and lanterns in his memory. Aaran Watson
