BLYTH Spartans Reserves increased their lead at the top to seven points.

A Liam Wotherspoo­n effort on the stroke of half-time saw them edge past visitors Whitburn Athletic 1-0.

With Bedlington being ousted from the League Cup by Premier Division Gateshead Rutherford, Prudhoe Youth Club ran amok at home to Willington Quay Saints to go joint second.

A Matty Robinson hat-trick helped Prudhoe on their way and he was joined on the scoresheet by a brace from Danny Graham and one each for Adam Greenwood and Jordan Phillips.

Walker’s four-goal burst was added to by Daniel McDonald ten minutes into the second half.
