Ramside in drive to unearth new talent
RAMSIDE Hall Hotel and Golf Club has launched a search to identify the next generation of golfing talent in the North East.
The Durham golf resort is offering four scholarships to junior golfers aged ten to 16 - including a year’s free membership, use of its two championship courses, Golf Academy practice facilities and tuition with attached PGA professional Kevin Jackson.
Helen Roseberry, director of golf at Ramside GC, said: “The Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholarship is now recruiting and Ramside is keen to hear from junior golfers who might be dreaming of becoming the next Graeme Storm, Jodi Ewart or Chris Paisley.”
The Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholarships are offered annually are named in honour of Ramside’s late company chairman Michael Adamson MBE.
They are provided to two boys and two girls each year and seek to identify young people with outstanding personal character and dedication to golf and its community.
There is no handicap limit for applications and golfers of all abilities are encouraged to apply.
Roseberry added: “You don’t have to be the finished article to apply for this scholarship.
“Most of all we are looking for young people with potential, room to grow and who genuinely love being out on the golf course.”
The scholarship scheme was established in 2015 and several recipients have already achieved impressive things in the sport.
Kitana Hollins, from West Rainton, was one of the inaugural scholars and is now playing college golf in America for Murray State College, Oklahoma.
Washington’s Duran Gun, a former scholar, won the Mizuno Race to Rockliffe junior tournament in 2017 and is considered one of the best young talents in the region.
Young golfers are invited to attend scholarship assessment days at Ramside GC with Jackson.
These are being held on Monday, February 12 (10.00-1.00) and Monday, February 19 (6.00).
