High fives for ten-man Moors as they march on in Trophy to

SPENNYMOOR Town are still dreaming of Wembley after an impressive 5-2 FA Trophy third-round replay win at East Thurrock United.

The two sides could not be separated in a 1-1 draw at Brewery Field on Saturday but Jason Ainsley’s Moors made no mistake in the replay.

They got off to a poor start as Montel Agyemang’s free-kick gave hosts East Thurrock an early lead.

The game had been turned on its head by half-time as the Moors went into the interval ahead thanks to goals from Glen Taylor and Andrew Johnson.

Things got even better for the Moors as Kallum Griffiths got their third goal early in the second half.

They were reduced to ten men three minutes after Griffiths’ strike when Jamie Chandler was shown a second yellow card for a handball in the area.

Lewis Smith scored from the spotkick and many suspected that the hosts would mount a comeback against the ten-man Moors.

However, their numerical disadvanta­ge seemed to motivate Ainsley’s side and former Ashington winger Johnson grabbed his hat-trick with two goals inside three minutes.

The win sets up a quarter-final tie at National League club Bromley, who came through their own replay with a 6-1 hammering of Evo-Stik League club Workington last night.
