Star shining bright to close on leaders

BLUE Star moved to within two points of Premier Division leaders Whickham Coachman with a 3-2 win over Highwayman.

Two goals from Robbie Houghton and one from Mark Doninger gave Star the points, with Highwayman’s replies coming from Steven Cain and Carl Foster.

Leam Lane WMC made it six league wins on the spin with a 6-2 victory at Fiddlers Three.

Jonny Hurst hit four for Leam Lane, the other counters from Connor Halpin and Joe Mole. On target for Fiddlers were Ryan Heron and Ollie Leedham.

Niall Codling was a hat-trick hero for Crawcrook Albion in their 3-1 success over Birtley RAOB. Ryan Quartermai­n registered for Birtley.

Winlaton West End recorded a narrow 1-0 result at Westwood, Barry Latimer scoring from the spot.

In Division One, Thomas Wilson have taken over at the top thanks to a 5-1 verdict at The Eagle.

Michael Cook and Nathan Bailey both bagged braces, with Neil Davison adding the fifth.

Chris McGee claimed the Eagle’s consolatio­n effort.

It is two defeats in a row for Gateshead Three Tuns as they were beaten 5-2 at home by Teams Club.

Jak Charleswor­th and Warren Scott netted for the hosts, but a double from Charlie Watson and one each from Joe Wrangham, Jack Mitchell and Michael Hall sealed the points for Teams.

Whickham Bay Horse are up to third courtesy of a 7-1 victory against Clara Vale.

Darren Turbitt struck a double with the rest from Mark Cooper, Ben Dixon, Alex Gasgoine, Brian Hutchinson and Marc Udale. Ryan Connor claimed Vale’s solo effort.

Nursery House enjoyed a 3-0 win over Rutherford, their finishes coming from Craig Bates, David Reay and Ciaran Leyland.
