A SUBURBAN street was brought to a standstill after the body of a man was found inside a house.

Emergency services were called to Darden Lough in West Denton, Newcastle, shortly after 2pm yesterday where the man’s body was discovered.

Crowds gathered at the end of the street and on nearby Deerbush as an air ambulance landed on the street.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, although concerned neighbours say they were told ‘no crime has been committed.’

One onlooker said: “I never heard any sirens come along.

“There were four ambulances and they wouldn’t send that amount if someone had had a heart attack. The NHS doesn’t have enough ambulances for that.”

Another neighbour added: “Someone was saying the police have been going door to door.”

Police cars, an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were summoned to Darden Lough close to Northumbria Walk.

The air ambulance landed close to the junction for Deerbush, before leaving the scene just before 3pm.

Details of the casualty have not yet been released.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death, identify the man and inform his next of kin.”

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance added: “We attended an incident in the West Denton area at 2.10pm, but we did not airlift anyone to hospital.”
