Reporter A FOOTBALL fan says he has been left scarred for life after he was injured by a thrown bottle at St James’ Park.

Peter Aliss, 32, was hit by the flying missile during Newcastle United’s win over Manchester United on Sunday.

Red Devils fan Peter suffered a large cut to his head and his dad Ray is urging witnesses to contact police.

Ray, 60, from Lytham St Annes, said: “If it had been a few inches lower it could have blinded him.

“We were sat in the away area, about 20 seats away from the Newcastle fans, in the upper tier of the Leazes Stand.

“As we were about to start leaving I felt something hit me really hard on my head. I thought something had fallen off the roof.

“My son’s face started streaming with blood and I realised the bottle had hit me and rebounded into his face.

“The wound is quite nasty and, according to the doctor, he will have a scar for the rest of his life.”

Peter, from Blackpool, was treated by paramedics at the stadium before spending the rest of the day in A&E.

His dad said: “It was a shock because you think these sorts of things have disappeared from football.

“I worked in Newcastle for two or three years and the people are fantastic. We were looking forward to the match but obviously it was some moron.

“If there are any decent fans that saw this incident and know the culprit I would urge them to contact police.”

Northumbria Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at the match between Newcastle United and Manchester United on Sunday afternoon during which an away fan was struck with a bottle inside St James’ Park.

“The male fan received treatment from paramedics for a cut to his face.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible and to take appropriate action against them.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101.
